Rain Man Leaves Town

From the no one cares department, utility infielder Ray Olmedo was claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates today.

In his 27 games with the Jays last season Olmedo and his .216/.245/.294 splits didn't exactly set the clap-o-meter at the Rogers Centre on fire.

Speaking of which, I once had to visit a clap-o-meter, but it turned out to only be a rash (insert amusing sound effect).

Olmedo was designated for assignment last week when the Jays made room on the 40 man roster for newly signed backup catcher Rod Barajas.

nice pic, it looks like olmedo would've come into spring training out of shape anyway

This is not a big move but I don't think it was the most shrewd one. Olmedo still had a chance to be a good defensive player, with maybe some OBP skills to make him a passable regular. The two players that were kept over him: Joe Inglett and Russ Adams. Adams just doesn't belong in an MLB infield, so unless they convert him to a 4th OF AND he breaks out offensively, he's actually detrimental to the team.
