On Outs: Rain, Blow and Otherwise

If only the Blue Jays were as adept at lowering expectations as Andrew Stoeten prior to a podcast. We wouldn't feel nearly as disappointed in a team that gets blown (you mean away?) 12-0 by the Cleveland Indians. We also likely wouldn't think of rain and a day off as a good thing.

Speaking of days off, a kafuffle isn't just something you regret eating at a Middle Eastern restaurant when you're fortified (or drunk as catshit, if you prefer) anymore, it's also something caused by John Gibbons' odd decisions when it comes to resting players this early in the season. I realize it's a marathon, not a sprint, and a million other sports metaphors, but Gibbons had me scratching my head when he rested Aaron Hill immediately following the announcement that Vernon Wells would be shelved for eight weeks.

Now, having said that, I highly doubt Aaron Hill would've knocked in a dozen runs, but is there an excuse for not putting the best possible team out there when your squad is struggling?

A.J. Burnett takes on Fausto Carmona in the first game of the double header today at 16:00. With another poor outing, Burnett will be scheduled for his annual stay on the 15-day disabled list for arm shittiness.

According to Robert MacLeod, the Jays last played in an old-fashioned double feature in September of 2005 against the Boston Red Sox.

I was also wondering why the fuck Hill was sitting, and Mench and Wilkerson were playing, right after Wells went on the DL. They essentially fielded a minor league team Saturday.
Valencia missed at least one ball that Hill would have caught, and Wilkerson bobbled or dropped the ball three times by my count in left, although he only got charged one error.

I was thinking to mself, at least the Jays can't lose 2 game in one day. I forgot about double headers. Woe is me...the Jays are brutal.

There's no pleasing fans... if he had played Hill and (after his 37th straight start) he pulls a hammy or something would you then say why didn't he give him a day off.

The day off is great and I hope its enough to get this offense's head on straight.

Aside, apparently Stewart is unhappy obviously too bad he has no trade value. I just gotta say waaaahh waaaahhhh waaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh who cares.

The Jays need to be more agressive. B. E. Agressive.

You're right, I'm not particularly pleased when I drive down to Cleveland to watch the Jays field 2nd string players and loose 12 nothing. The experience was still great, I just would have rather seen Hill in, considering Ecks and Mac are already out. I find Gibbons gives guys days off at really strange times sometimes...

There is nothing better than a double header. Sure, it means you missed a game the day before, and it means the weather has been shitty, but it's also just really fucking cool to watch two games (I did it at Yankee stadium last summer against the Rays, awesome experience). Even with how shitty this team has been, I'm looking forward to the twin bill.

No, I doubt that I'd complain about a starter getting too much playing time just a month into the season. Even if he pulled a hammy on a Saturday afternoon when half the team starting already weren't starters.

Agreed that something about a double header is fucking awesome. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's gotta have something to do with baseball being steeped in tradition, and double headers seem to bring you back to the "good ol' days."

I don't know exactly, but I get an old-timey feeling about double headers.

Does anyone remember a baseball movie with Roy Schieder in it, and I think he played for the Tigers, and this kid would skip school to go to the games. Does that ring a bell with anyone?

Anyone know of bus trips to other stadiums? There were more Jays fans than I expected in Cleveland, but they were scattered about. I've always wondered why there weren't more bus trips to Detroit or Cleveland, or why I haven't heard of them...
