Snatching Defeat from the Jaws of Victory
I said this already in the comments of the previous post, but unbelievable mother of fuck! I don't even want to talk about that one. A four hour motherfucking game with a 7-2 lead, turned into an 8-6 lead, then an 8-7 lead, then on a two-out, 0-2 pitch in the bottom of the ninth, the Giam-fucking-bino wins it. Fuck off.
If it's alright with everybody, I'm going to discuss some happier things. Or at least some neutral things. Or... well... basically anything that doesn't have to do with making me relive the end of that fucking game again. I know it's just one game, and I know there have been a few times this year where you could say that they should have won, but never like this. They absolutely fucking should have won that one. Gahhhh...
So... Brian Wolfe has been activated from the DL. Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? ... They say he's going to pitch some more in triple-A before they bring him up. [rimshot]
The draft has been in the news lately. Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? . . . The Jays picked David Cooper of UC Berkeley. He's a first baseman with a lot of power potential and not much else-- though Keith Law thinks he's more an Overbay-y doubles guy. . . I wonder if he'll be any good. [rimshot]
The European soccer championships are about to get under way in Austria and Switzerland. Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? . . . Our friend Cathal Kelly of the Star is blogging over there and has been fucking nailing it so far. [rimshot]
Speaking of the Star... Richard Griffin. [rimshot]
No, no, seriously... Griffin actually kind of nailed it this week. For him, at least. At least, I thought he did. He wrote a mail bag that was generally pretty good-- and almost wholly uncringeworthy-- except, well... it's a pretty glib assessment to say that the Frank Thomas signing was only about OBP... and um... Steve Rogers is a .500 pitcher, which I once heard was a bad thing... and I'm not sure if I'd put Wetteland over Henke or Walker/Oliver over Molitor/Winfield (even if only considering their careers in Canada), and... what else? Nah... that was pretty much it. Amazing what a decent month can do for everyone's mood. [rimshot?]
Oh yeah, and according to someone who commented on one of our posts, Griff chatted with Chuck Swirsky on the Fan590 this week. Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? . . . Evidently he said some insightful things about the state of the media and admitted that he reads blogs-- even ones that tend to dis him. [rimshot] (Hi Rich! Um... we were really sure nobody was or ever would be reading us when we made it kind of a thing to always pick on you. Which isn't to say we found it at all difficult to find tremendously ridiculous things you'd written to pick apart . . .)
Our friends over at the Tao of Stieb. Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? . . . They got some major [expletive deleted] linkage the other day (from Big League Stew, Baseball Musings, and ESPN's Rob Neyer. [rimshot] No, seriously. Nice work. [rimshot]
Speaking of outstanding blogs, the Mockingbird has been nailing it lately. Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? . . . Hale's got some wicked Pitch F/X action showing the um... differences between the pitches being called for Mike Mussina on Wednesday and the way the umpire treated Jesse Litsch. [rimshot]
Alex Rios seems to be coming out of his slump lately. Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? . . . He's now tied with Ichiro for the longest current hitting streak against any one team, now with hits in 26 straight against the Yankees. Ichiro's streak is against the Royals. Pussy. [rimshot]
OK... fuck this... [rimshot]

Looks like the playoff bandwagon hit a bump. Got beer all over my pants.
You fucktard jays fans realize that there isn't theat much of a difference between the jays and yanks. one team can pitch, one can hit. hitting probably won't go away through a season. But starting pitching with 3/5's of the rotation never pitching a full season usually hits the shitter!!! A closer who doesn't really look to be pitching his best, I mean B.J. should have blown about 4 -5 games by now.
The only reason the jays are ahead of the yanks right now is beacause Jesse Bitsch has been pitching waaaay above average. Litsch should maybe be a .500 pitcher. So if Litch is 6-4 or 5-5 then the Jays are right there with the Yanks and O's. Playoffs my ass and I'm a jays fans - you fucks should wake up, get drunk and figure it out. This team blows fucking chunks. But hey, Vernon I'm going to pop out on the first pitch three times a night, and never dive for a ball in centre again Wells is coming back soon.

Know what a fucktard is? Somebody who double-posts.
Stoeten, thanks for clearly illustrating why Leno sucks. Granted, Letterman and Conan aren't much better. Ferguson will save late night... heck, he's already caught up with Kimmel and Conan in the ratings in just a few years. Man's amazing.
Sorry to talk about the late-night wars, but after closing my browser from the game in the top of the ninth inning to come home, the last thing I want to talk about is what I discovered the instant I got home — that the Beej blew a second straight.
Sheesh dude... you better not cheer for the team again. I might have to hunt you down and beat you with my bandwagon. It's hand held and automatic.
WHy the fuck draft another overbay or first base type. that fat ass Snider will be there within two years. And Lind, well I think John-Paul has motherfucked him for good, he's got no shot of ever playing up here again, John-Paul simply doesn't like him, same with League.
Beej has to stop blowing things.
Hey Godfrey, you already wrote that comment in the other post, too. So that's three times.
Tell me again why Wells is injured, champ.
Also... doesn't Litsch having a way better record than his talent would suggest (I agree with you there) get evened out by Halladay's record?
Best part of "Godfrey"'s argument: if Litsch had lost more games, the jays would have a worse record. Genius.
Hahaha JP "doesn't like" League? League has been given every opportunity to play in the bigs and he's fucked them up by not throwing strikes/working out too much.
I love how there's not much difference between the Jays and the Yanks except they are the exact opposite. That was a remarkable job.
I can't believe I always get sucked into replying to comments like this. I am so weak.
"And Lind, well I think John-Paul has motherfucked him for good, he's got no shot of ever playing up here again, John-Paul simply doesn't like him, same with League."
Just as 60 AB is not enough to evaluate a player, 60 AB is not enough to forever black ball him. League might actually be done... His walk rate is still too high and doesn't deserve to be in the majors.
Lind should be in the ML but they're sticking to their plan and letting him have consistent atbats somewhere for the first time in his career. He's been rushed hardcore so give the guy some time to catch his breath and show us what he's truly capable of. It's not like half the core is walking this year and next year is already a write off.
I'd love to know why you are blaming this on the president and not the GM... Godfrey watches the money and JP spends it. Not the other way around.
Yes. Fuck this, I'm going to mow the lawn.
anyone catch the john mclaren tirade the other night? first the jesus comment, and now this. awesome guy, gonna get fired, but an awesome guy
If there's anything to take away from this, it's that when the Jays win they're nails, and when they lose it's usually games they could've won. Good team, will make playoffs, fuck the Yankees.
Yeah, the Yanks can hit and the Jays can pitch, what happened in the last two games?Mussina dealt quite well(he got close calls, but the Jays have to hit) and Wang got bombed. The Jays score 8 runs and Dustin,Beej and Co blew the game. It's amazing how the Jays capitalized on Yankee's mistakes for naught.
The way that they lost to the Angels in the ninth in those two games and the Yanks is why they are not going to the playoffs. The Beej is not Krod or Mariano and is not completely 100% yet.Where is Accardo when you need him?
So many things went wrong in the end,Barajas and Inglett don't get that game blowing hit,Eck and Rolen barely miss that Arod ball.Defensive indifference led to Afrod scoring that 7th run,Gibby has a lot to talk about after this game and hopefully he will resolve the Beej problem.....
But... there is no Beej problem.
Thing is, if you win 95 you're really good, and you also happen to have lost 67 times. If the hitting and pitching keep it up like they have for the last month, the Jays will have a hard time not being in the race when all is said and done.
Of course... if the pitching blows up or the hitting reverts back to April-style, there's trouble. But for a nine game West-Coast-to-Yankee-Stadium road trip,... well... it could have gone a whole lot worse.
I agree Wil-toeten (with all due respect).
Fuck that roid fueled mustache.
I notice that Giambi has started a trend. Now Damon is also sporting a porn-stache.
I thought the Steinbrenners didn't tolerate facial hair!
Apparently Lesbians offend people in Seattle. I didn't think that was possible there.
BTW,the Steinbrenners allow moustaches, remember David Wells,Wade Boggs,Spaky Lyle, etc so on?They don't allow beards or Dustin Mutton chops!
Stoeten,Beej has blown two saves in a row, let's see how he does in the next few weeks.Mike of the infamous Mike and Mad Dog(biggest Yankee fan of all time) said at the top of the 9th that BJ is such a good closer that scoring 2 runs let alone 3 would be impossible.I thought about that blown Angels game and said.....it is possible, wait and see...
Oh and 3 of 6 picks so far for the Jays have been high school prospects. #2 has blazing speed and looks like Juan Pierre. #6 is a bunch of the same and has a cannon for an arm. Very Alex Riosish in his running and fielding.
Until they survive the winter they shall only be referred to by number.
"Until they survive the winter they shall only be referred to by number."
I'm hard core I've already memorized their HS stats and am giving them big league nick names like;
K-Wil
The Big Sobolewski
and The Brisket
Blown saves happen, though. To everybody. I just don't know why anyone would assume this is anything more than a coincidence. I mean... it's possible that it isn't, but come on...
Like... who did he face? Jeter, Abreu, A-Rod, Matsui, Giambi? That is NOT a gimme save. It's kind of absurd to think that because he couldn't get through those guys there's something wrong with him.
2008 OPS+ of those five in order: 99, 119, 149, 147, 149.
FUCK
first yankee PH walkoff in 20 years...
what an absolute fucking debacle today's game was.....i seriously don't think it's possible to feel worse than this.
I think the Jays are just doomed to this shit...always blowing games in Yankees stadium in frustrating ways. For fuck sakes, it doesn't even feel like we'll do well agaisnt Baltimore and Seattle.
the password is...cunt
like an old catchers mitt.
something you stay away from after a long drive.
yer mama.
rhymes with aunt
yes the answer is cunt
Jason is a cunt.
Pinch hit home run makes me cry,
Giambi must die.
Jays are doomed to not make the playoffs after this loss BUT the Yankees don't look poised to make it either. What this game made clear is that Wang is really a 4a pitcher not even a 1c! The shitty Yankee relief corps basically held the Jays to one run.
The Jays have the best ERA in the AL.Can they keep the Yankees down to at least 4 runs? All the Yankee radio people could talk about was the superior Jay pitching but the crappy offensive was the problem. The Jays left a small army of people on base and Barajas and Inglett's outs in the top of the Ninth gave the Yanks a chance.
Some of those responses to Tao of Stieb's comments about Joba vs Litsch are hilarious.
buck16, the correct name is Stoetilner, as coined by Parkes.
Man it sure doesn't take much for the haters to come out in force does it?
I really like the hating on the Jays' first round pick, because apparently they don't need a 1B. It's the first round, you take the best player available, that's it. Yeah, if it's close between two guys and you have a glut at one spot and a gap at the other, that probably tips it, but otherwise, take the best you can get. You are actually allowed to trade guys, FYI. And anyway, it's fucking baseball, every draft pick is a shot in the dark. Go back and look at the top 10's from 5-10 years ago, even the really high picks are hit and miss.
Oh, and Snider is a fat ass? Have you even seen a picture of the guy? Much less watch him play baseball? I haven't, and you probably haven't either, so shut up. You have no fucking clue whether he's capable of playing the outfield in the majors.
I'm with you Manute, why the fuck do I even bother with commenters like this? Fuck.
I've never seen a 'Jays fan' be so hard on a team before. John Paul Godfrey I'm clearly talking about. Isn't there, what, four months left to go in the season? They're only 4 and a half games back which isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination. The Jays haven't even hit their stride that I know is coming (not just being the ever-optimist). I'm loving the season so far even if there are some crappy losses. By the way, the real reason I decided to leave a comment here was about the headline. How about 'Snatching Defeat from the Jays if Victory'
Lets go!
Ahahaha... Ferguson just referred to David Caruso as a "ginger bitch." It's like my world came full circle. :)
wilner is such a cock tease
Have you seen this? Have you heard about this ?
Stoeten to appear on Last Hack Standing![rimshot]
I kid. because it was such a great bit!
Ol' C
I saw Snider play for Lansing in Dayton last year. Definitely not a "fat ass." Sheesh....
BTW - I'm going to catch New Hampshire in Akron and Syracuse in Columbus next week. I'm hoping to see Cecil for the Fisher Cats, and someone not named Bill Murphy for the Chiefs. I have to submerge myself in the minors for a while after yesterday's debacle....
please take that picture down - that mustache sends me into a rage every time i see it
Stoeten, I refuse to accept that King Cow Chip icon as your avatar. I will only accept this
