The Litsch Is Back
I had to wait three whole starts down in Syracuse to use that headline, but finally, like a high school graduate who travels to Europe before going to university, Jesse Litsch found himself while in Syracuse and is ready to start Major League Baseball games again.
During my pre-university tour of Europe, I didn't find myself so much as I found multiple sexually transmitted infections, including mono and chlamydia. Thank you Olga . . . and Babette, and Claire, and Famke, and Sophie, and Oksana, and Helen, and Mrs. Vanderhoeven.
To make room on the active roster, John Parrish was demoted to Syracuse despite finally seeming to fit in with this ballclub as an inning eating long man out of the bullpen. Scott Richmond, of Ricciardi hates Canada fame, will leave the starting rotation and bring an additional right handed arm to the bullpen.
Litsch is now scheduled to start the Thursday game against the Detroit Tigers, pushing Roy Halladay toward the mound for Friday's series opener against the Boston Red Sox.
That Cito! He's got the whole world in his hands.

thats good news...I think...
Calling Richmond up in the first place makes sense only if they just didn't want Parrish starting anymore games. It's counter productive to keep him up now that Litsch is back. But whatever, makes sense if they don't want hostility with Baseball Canada. And they'll sell a few more tickets
Oh fuck, I just posted the same thing ... from a more homoerotic angle.
"... makes sense if they don,t want hostility with Baseball Canada."
The only people claiming that there's any hostility over the Richmond call-up are the people who haven't been paying attention. The director of national teams for Baseball Canada said they were thrilled for Richmond, and I've seen nothing to indicate that there's some kind of animosity as a result of the move.
But even if there was, putting him in the 'pen wouldn't do anything to help. Richmond still stays with the Blue Jays; he's not going to Beijing one way or the other now.
mike from ottawa: Yeah, but by keeping him in the bullpen, the Jays can say "Hey, at least he's still on the team!" to keep the Olympic crowd quiet. I'd imagine there would be a lot more uproar if Richmond missed out on the Olympics only to be demoted after a measly three appearances in the MLB.
Uproar, sure, but not from Baseball Canada. Just from the rubes on Prime Time Sports and what-not.
Eggs-mc-xactly, Mike.
Also, believe you me, no one is afraid of Baseball Canada. What are they gonna do? Start a negative media campaign?
In my experience, Baseball Canada is so out of touch with promoting baseball in this country that they are likely unaware a)that there is a MLB team in Toronto and b)that a Canadian is actually pitching for them.
I think it's just a matter of ruffling less feathers in general. Send Parrish down, nobody cares; send Richmond down, and you get a bunch of articles about how Ricciardi hates Canada. If I'm JP, I probably don't really care either way, but it's not like either of these guys would be pitching in any meaningful situations anyways. If it doesn't really matter which one you keep, you might as well make whichever move would piss less people off.
i heart cito
Does anybody truly give a flying fuck about Olympic baseball?
Honestly. Enough of this shit.
Actually, I do. There's fuck-all else to care about at the Olympics, The Jays have worn me out and after this year there's no more Olympic baseball. It's something to watch and if this group of no-names (mostly) can make a run for a medal, I'm gonna enjoy it.
Besides, Stubby Clapp is still on the team, and besides being Stubby Clapp, he "has been known to perform back flips on the baseball field as a tribute to Ozzie Smith."
Let's see fucking Wells pull that off.
Did anyone notice how fat Jesse is now? Someone needs to talk to him about that.
Seriously.
