It's Barajas Time
After yesterday's ballgame, it seems almost ridiculous to praise any performance other than David Purcey's. However, there are enough glowing reports of the young left hander's eight innings of shutout baseball online today to outnumber those fan fiction stories involving Data and Geordie from Star Trek The Next Generation intertwined in an interstellar homosexual romance aboard the Starship Enterprise.
Stoeten's masturbation fantasies aside, I'd like to laugh in the face of Philadelphia Phillies fans and mention the contribution of Purcey's battery mate to yesterday's victory. Rod Barajas not only knocked in the only run of the game through a sacrifice fly, but he also delivered buckets of boners with his play behind the plate, including a pick off of Willy Aybar in the second inning.
I know that managing runners isn't the most important strategy for a battery tandem to focus on, but fuck me in the ear if it isn't exciting to see a catcher gun a runner down on the basepaths.
For sentimental reasons, Gregg Zaun's impending departure at the end of the season rends at the ventricles a bit, but Barajas emergence as a more than capable replacement (at a more than decent price), with the potential additions of a Jeroloman or Arencibia, makes it a much more easier pill to swallow.
Now, if only that .300 OBP can somehow find it's way upward.

Barajas's career OBP is .290, thus asking it to improve from his current.300 2008 stat is a tall order.
Funny story: when my Mother and I get together for Wednesday afternoon shenanigans, the safe word used to be "port-a-potty! port-a-potty!" Just recently, however, she requested that it be changed to "Barajas." We haven't had a chance to use it yet. She's kind of open to anything...
Just make sure it's said with the same inflection as when it's announced at Rogers Centre.
BAH-RAH-HAS!
.300 OBP?!?!
Cito has watched Barajas hit .229/.262/.380 and pencils him in at the 5/6 spot in the order consistently. A .300 OBP would be welcome with open arms.
Zaun departure you have to be joking?Look at all he has done this year...walk off grand slam, game winning hit against the Yankees, his steal off home. Not to mention if it wasn't for him Toronto would have no connection to the steroid scandal.I would be willing to bet that Zaun is responsible for at least 30 to 40 tickets being sold.I almost forgot didn't he throw a runner out this year. You can't let them get rid of Zaun...unless Sal Fasano is available
Holding baserunners is nice and all but Zaun's career .344 OBP is probably better. And Zaun's still better behind the plate. How about a compromise. Barajas gets to come back next year but he has to change his name to Rodd.
Zaun's production gets worse every year. I like him a lot, but it would be stupid to bring him back next season, especially with the young catching we have on the farm and cheap Barajas.
Fuck off Parkes.
She's kind of open to anything...
Sounds like Parkes' Mom, her legs are open to everything.
Oh man, anonymi. That was weak. The only thing lamer than a mother joke, is repeating the exact same mother joke to make fun of someone else.
Barajas is having a decent season with the Jays, but he was a piece of crusty poop with the Phils.
