Saturday Morning Beer Shits and Giggles: That was an unlucky game last night, lads. But I'm sure you'll put on a jolly good show today!

So, um, maybe no playoffs? Nah, fuck that. I still wish I could just sit around and watch today's double header and eat potato chips but I gotta head off to a fucking softball tournament in the rain all day.

As for our recent run, seems like the former rulers of the world have caught onto the fever as well. Or they've at least mentioned our humble little team. Last week, British newspaper The Observer ran this piece by respected BBC personality Colin Murray.

It's not quite an outsider perspective on the team and sport as Murray has been a huge Blue Jays fan since having spent some time here 15 years ago. But according to him, the Jays are a pretty friendly bunch compared to your average soccer (Oi! It's called football, you tosser!) club. And he shares our disdain for the Red Sox. And it's telling that the promotions at the Rogers Centre are more annoying than any football stadium. All in all, not a bad read to start your morning. He may be a bit of a pretty boy but fuck, he regularly chooses to spend his vacation time to come to Toronto to watch our team play. Fuck man, I don't even choose to spend my weekday evenings at the Rogers Centre.

The best part of the whole story is the caption underneath the photo. And then the note at the bottom of the article alerting readers that the caption had had to be amended. To something still incorrect. Oi! Get it together copy editors! Observer readers must've been pretty fucking confused when they heard the news that we let Eckstein go: "Wha' the fuck are you lot all about? Gettin' rid of fockin' Eckstein? Awright, he may not be the best bleedin' shortstop, but the geezer can pitch as well! You show me one other fockin' player who can do that, right? Right? You having a go, mate? Ah, fuck off ya cunt!"

Thanks very much to my brother, Niels, for finding the article. The poor guy is baseball starved over there in London.

Go Jays.

This is mostly off topic, but I think we need to be showing more disgust that our BLUE JAYS wear black and gray uniforms. Seriously, what the fuck. Why can't we wear our classic royal blues for away games, keep the whites for home, and retro powder blues for alternates? Am I wrong here? Of course, the black hats have to go too. Who the fuck wants to wear a black Jays hat? I say make it royal blue for both home and away.

As for the logo, I'd prefer the original logo of course or at least an updated version of that, but the current one doesn't bother me too much either. The ridiculous stylized "T" logo though is an abomination. We're not on the level that a T is going to be recognized as Toronto Blue Jays. Most importantly, it's ugly.

http://www.chriscreamer.com/team.php?id=78

Just looking at this page makes me want to cry. How did we from having one of the most kickass logos and uniforms to a mockery of graphic design and color combinations? To be fair, the current uniforms are way better than the 97-2003 eyesores but we can do better.

End of rant.

SP, I think I can safely say that I really couldn't care less about that.

Nice baserunning that inning.

When the Jays were great, they had freakin' soccer uniform numbers on their backs. I don't care what they wear.
PS-I have a black Jays hat, 2004 I think.

Oh boy if we can get to the sox pen early today then we look really good for tonight.

Stoeten said...

Fucking eh!!!

Rian said...

I'll agree with you about the uniforms SP, the stylized T is an absolute atrocity. And why don't they have any blue uniforms at all but they have a black one? Makes no sense to me. Maybe I care too much about how my team looks when they're playing.

SP said...

SP, I think I can safely say that I really couldn't care less about that.

I knew that would be the response but I care...so fuck off!

Seriously though, the black unis are a joke. Just look at Cito now and compare him to the total badass in my pic.

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

Hmm...true.

Stoeten said...

I don't even necessarily disagree, SP, I just don't care.

the stylized T is an absolute atrocity.

This I can get on board with, though.

Brendan said...

If AJ gets through the 6th, does he get shut own to rest? There are extra arms in the pen and Halladay going tomorrow. I know 5 runs in Fenway can disappear quickly, but I think I'd shut him down and take a chance with the pen.

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

Rance is right...Rolen hasn't been catching up with a lot of fastballs lately. Good sign.

Barajas hurt?

Rian said...

SNIDER!!!!

Rick Aguirre said...

save some of those rubies for the night game, travis!!!

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

"If AJ gets through the 6th, does he get shut own to rest?"

It's not like Cito to take out a pitcher early. I expect he'll take him right up to 100 pitches.

Snider! More power from the #9 spot!

7 runs might be enough to get Cito to do the pulling Burnett thing now.

SP said...

ALMOST another HR!

Rick Aguirre said...

yeah, burnett's done enough. let our b-pen close it out.

The Manute Bol Experience said...

That kid is real fucking good. Let's run this up and burn through a few bullpen guys.

SP said...

Man I love Joe "Fuck Reed Johnson" Inglett.

The Manute Bol Experience said...

I'd rather ride AJ as far as possible and keep the pen fresh for tonight and tomorrow.

SP said...

I say bring in Parrish for a few innings.

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

"I'd rather ride AJ as far as possible and keep the pen fresh for tonight and tomorrow."

They've got guys in there like Richmond, Wolfe and Parrish who never pitch.

Throwing those guys out won't make a difference.

The Manute Bol Experience said...

You're probably right. If we need those guys we're fucked anyway.

SP said...

Use your bullpen Cito! He's on 3 days rest and has thrown the most pitches in the majors this year!

Anonymous said...

Why not let Scott Richmond pitch to Kottoras - I don't see the point of wasting any useful arms for the duration of this game (including AJ's); let richmond/wolfe/parrish and even fraser for all i care get in the game - is cito playing for a shutout or what?!

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

Carlson? Carlson???

Why?

Stoeten said...

Kottaras... Markham boy.

Wait, I bet Jamie Campbell is mentioning this, isn't he.

But hey, if he's any good (should be decent), play Martin at 3B at the WBC.

Jays2010 said...

I second that Fullmer - what a waste

Rian said...

Hey I sort of know this Kottaras guy. Well, at least his cousin.

Jays2010 said...

Now if Litsch can follow AJ's lead, we'd have Doc to (hopefully) win the series for us tomorrow and keep the slimmest of legit playoff hopes alive...

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

Damnit, Joe.

Well whatever, AJ still was great. Make that 2 fantastic starts this week agaisnt good-hitting teams. He came up huge for us this week.

SP said...

Oh God! Carlson???

And wtf was Inglett thinking trying to barehand a hard flip from Scutaro.

Brendan said...

So...Frasor comes on last night in a close game...and Carlson comes on in an 8-0 game during the first of a double-header with Jesse Litsch pitching...Don't get me wrong, this team has been playing better since Cito and co. took over, but strategically he does some weird stuff sometimes. This feels just like old times...

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

Francona knows what he's doing. He pulls his starters.

While we have Carlson in.

Ugh.

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

Always love to see that jerk Mussina get hit around. He really wants that #20, and it looks like he's not going to get it.

Jays2010 said...

Hey Mussina may replace AJ next yr for all we know - i wouldn't be opposed to giving him a one year deal...

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

I don't want that asshole on the Jays, and I don't think Cito would want him here either.

Is there any reason for Richmond/Parrish/Wolfe to be on this roster right now if they aren't going to pitch?

Jays2010 said...

Richmond=olympic "fiasco"
Parrish/Wolfe=they are major league pitchers that get fucked because of our depth...so this is how we make it up to them, a month of ML salary without getting up...

So fullmer - would u want Manny on this team? I'm kinda mixed on him, but he may still be a top 3 slugger in the game.

John Brattain said...

I think Carlson came in to ensure that inning didn't get out of hand.

He threw 12 pitches and is probably available for the nightcap.

Best Regards

John

Beau said...

I'm going to miss baseball during the offseason. Oh well, I like hockey too.

The Jays, at this point, are sort of representing as the best team in league. Dam

Brendan said...

Mussina/Cito would be...AMAZING. it would be like a professional wrestling storyline every single day of the season.

Beau said...

I can't watch that asshole throw shitballs all day . . . also, Mussina looked pretty done early in year, i'm guessing he is shit next year.

Stoeten said...

Beau, how was that move and t-bag's shit last night? Is Adam back this way or staying up there? Why am I not shitfaced yet?

SP said...

This has been some pretty retarded bullpen management by Cito. It would've been even dumber if he actually pitched League, who he had warming up for some reason in an 8-0 game.

Beau said...

Adams on bus now. Tbags thing was okay, Lara's was fun.

Yopu find a house yet?

Sniders interview there gave a lot of credit to coaching staff.

Beau said...

I guess he figures he has Downs and Ryan that he needs to use next game

Beau said...

Allright, we've alternated wins and losses. We need a run now.

That's right, we. I'm a very small part of this team.

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

"So fullmer - would u want Manny on this team? I'm kinda mixed on him, but he may still be a top 3 slugger in the game."

He's still Manny, so yeah, obviously.

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

Having Ryan available seems like kind of a bad thing to me.

Beau said...

I'm more worried about Downs right now.

Ugh. Not yet-- getting there. Job starts Tuesday. One day I'll be able to pay you back.

I cant help but think cito didnt put the best lineup out there last night. I can understand not wanting to mess up the kids' swings against the knuckleballer but at the same time there comes a point in the season when you ride the horses that got you back in this thing and let the kids show you exactly what they're capable of. A lineup with both Mench and Wilkerson felt like a Gibby wet dream.

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

Yeah, because Gibbons had a choice in the matter back when he played Mench and Wilkerson. Both Snider and Lind were in the major leagues then...oh wait.

Stoeten said...

Yeah. And with SNIDEY you can talk about his SNIDEY-SENSES

Exactly! Did you know that the voice of the original cartoon Spiderman was Canadian? True story. After every dinger he hits, "My Snidey-senses are tingling..."

I thought that too (unnecessary slag of Gibbers aside). Like, they were saying that Mench and Wilkerson had experience against knuckleballers. Well, how the fuck are Lind and Snider going to get that experience if you play shitbags ahead of them?
