Completely Unsubstantiated Rumour! Burnett to Baltimore

Just got a very interesting email from a reader who lives in Maryland. He says that he ran into AJ Burnett recently down there, who signed an autograph for him. Not knowing that the guy was actually from Toronto and a Jays fan, Burnett then told him that he was going to be an Oriole next year, and that he should buy his jersey...

Absolutely, entirely impossible to verify, of course. But, personally, I am going to choose to believe this is 100% correct. I think.

As is well-known, Burnett's wife is from the Baltimore area-- it's in AJ's contract that she gets eight limo rides between Maryland and Toronto each season-- and the Orioles have long been rumoured to be one of the front-runners for his services when he opts out of his contract.

Thing is, Mark Teixeira is another free agent Maryland native who, it's been speculated, may be interested in a homecoming, so... I'm not so sure this is entirely AJ's call to make (I doubt the O's would pay for both players). But, again, I'm just going to choose to believe that this is 100% true. I think. Because I'm like that.

LOL.

He's not going to the Orioles when the Yankees/Red Sox will outbid for him. If he does? Well he's like that pussy Gil Meche, then, only AJ would actually be taking less money to pitch in a bad baseball city.

The Jays just signed former first overall pick Bryan Bullington.

The A.J. pursuit is over.

Right?

Let them have him.

And we can swing a trade for him the next time he's at the last 6 months before he turns into a free agent.

Not good, the O's first round pick is protected. Jays will be much better off if he signs with one of the top 15 teams.

To chill out with Ricky Romero in Las Vegas, no doubt.

"Burnett then told him that he was going to be an Oriole next year, and that he should buy his jersey..."

Does that even make any sense? Burnett told this e-mailer to buy his Jays jersey now, because it was about to become vintage? Or was he asking the guy for his support once he does becomes an Oriole, saying "Please help boost my jersey sales so the team thinks the fans are happy with me?" I'm confused.

You can tell it's bullshit when the guy says he gave him his autograph. That grumpy fuck wouldn't do that, silly.

Is it just me, or is AJ's Mrs. total trouble? Won't fly, team pays for her limo rides from Maryland and back...and now she wants her man to play for the Orioles? "Babe, I know you've started to turn it around, but instead of staying put or playing for a new team that has a chance both to win and pay us big money, how 'bout you play for shitty Baltimore so we can live near my parents."

also, stoeten, did you finally vanquish parkes?

I don't know where the fuck Parkes is, but he's certainly not vanquished. Justin either. I think lazy is the word you're looking for. This season was draining as fuck, so, I don't blame anyone for not being ready to start scouring the internet for Jays bullshit again. I wasn't back into it until just recently.

As for the autograph thing... definitely fishy, but the kid sounded sincere. And I wonder if now I'll get more people sending me crazy rumours with the expectation that I'll just print them with a slight warning. Perhaps there's reason this can of worms isn't often opened. Fuck, I don't want to be a Marty York. I thought it was funny, though. And possibly true-- though, like I said, I really don't think this is AJ's call. Apparently the guy was bagging his groceries.

Are we assuming that this guy was AJ and not just some jackass who looks like AJ and decided it was funny to pretend?

Stoeten said...

Yes, we're assuming that... if we're believing the story. Which we probably shouldn't, but we will, because life is more fun that way.
