RIP FJM (1987-2008)
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
From Fire Joe Morgan:
Hello, everyone.
After 21 years, and almost 40 million posts (we'll have to check those numbers, but it's something like that), we have decided to bring FJM to an end.
Although we have not lost our borderline-sociopathic joy for meticulously criticizing bad sports journalism, the realities of our professional and personal lives make FJM a time/work luxury we can no longer afford.
We started this site with two purposes: to make each other laugh, and to aid and abet the Presidential campaign of Bob Barr. Although we failed in the latter goal, we gleefully succeeded in the first, and thanks to a grassroots internetty word-of-mouth kind of a deal, we appear to have positively affected the lives of actual citizens as well, which astonishes and delights us to this day. We really never thought FJM would be for anyone but us. We are thrilled and kind of humbled to have been proven wrong.
We thank all of you for the kind emails, and the tips, and the support. To each and every person who ever contacted us: hat tip to you.
Perhaps the future holds another project for us on which to waste massive amounts of time. For now, we will leave the site and the archives up as a testament to the fact that if you work hard enough, and blow off enough social occasions, and stare at the internet enough, and get nerdy enough, and repeatedly ignore entreaties from your friends and loved ones to please God stop blogging about Bill Plaschke and get out of the house it's a beautiful day!, then you, too, can...have a blog.
Again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. And as Joe Morgan himself might say:
"I really haven't seen them play...slidepiece...Dave Concepcion."
Love,
dak, Junior, and Ken

This fucking sucks.
I guess they are too busy doing far more important things. Like producing and writing for the best sitcom on TV for example.

Hopefully someone else will pick up the Griff-skewering slack.
This is a sad day for the blogging world. FJM was the best and the standard for destroying poor journalism. Everything else seemed second-rate by comparison.
It's a sad mother fucking day.
An amazing site that, unfortunately, is ending at the top of its game. Of course, since their raison d'etre may actually happen, it might be poor taste to just keep kicking Morgan as he slowly slides into oblivion.
Time for Cooperstown to open up a section for blogs.
This is unrelated, but a friend of mine is a gf of Nick Punto's agent and told me the Jays are in on Punto heavily to be their SS in 2009. You can choose to believe or not, but i for one am excited!
Since you gave me the choice, I choose to not believe it.
Really? I don't exactly see how that's an upgrade over Scutaro. However, JP Ricciardi does enjoy the utility infielders-- or, as Keith Law (I think) put it, players who remind him of himself.
(OK. Yeah, it's an upgrade, but how much, really?)
according to SI the Yanks have offers prepared for CC, AJ and Derek Lowe.
Now that they've picked up Swisher, maybe they don't feel the need to push for Teixeira...
CC-Burnett-Wang-Lowe-Joba/Hughes/Kennedy would be one hell of a rotation.
But - this could potentially be one of the weakest Yankee lineup in years. Jeter Posada and Matsui are old and declining, and a Damon-Cabrera/Gardner-Nady OF is not very imposing.
I'd be stunned if they didn't go after a bat, but then again I was stunned that they didn't trade Phil Hughes for the best pitcher in baseball.
^ The Yankees turned down a Phil Hughes for Roy Halladay swap?
mlbtraderumors is reporting AJ Burnett and Altanta Braves have a mutual interest (apprently playing close to home isn't as important as initially thought)
Burnett has a mutual interest with any team that has a check book
I thought Burnett was from Arkansas? That's not close to Atlanta?
he lives in bodymore, murderland. yes, i ripped that off DJF.
Nick fucking punto, eh
sign mannah
punto? i wasn't sold till i read this about him: "The perception is that Punto is best suited as a super-utility guy, someone who can play three positions and occasionally contribute offensively"
sign him up! maybe some day we'll run j-mac, bautista, scooter, inglett, and punto out there for the toronto utility jays.
Rosenthal ranked the top 10 free agents and put some likey destinations and 4 of them have blue jays written beside their name.
This is so frustrating!!
I haven't read FJM regularly since Junior took over as the primary poster because I found his extreme nit-picking and snotty attitude tiring after a time. He even criticized columnists for headlines sometimes, which he should know are not written by the writers. The other guys were great, though.
Fuck off Parkes
I was born in 1987. I wonder if this means I'm going to die this year.
I was born in 1977.
I was born in 1971.
Anyone else?
1981, woo!
and why is JP going after middle infielders...fuck off with that...get a big bat and it won't matter that the SS hits like...
and please stop fantasizing about an awesome Yankees rotation...cut that shit out...
wowowow, why would someone born in '87 die this year? I'm born in 87!
You young whipper-snappers (pointing with crooked finger) aren't even old enough to remember the "Glory Years". Why, I can tell you stories of the time...
Seriously though isn't anyone here older than me? Fuck!
