National Post Touched By the Hand Of God...frey
Yeah, I know that's not Paul Godfrey in the picture, and I know that I probably should be using this opportunity to post, perhaps for the last time, the beardy goodness that is Godfrey's mug, but somebody sent me this pic a while back, and I figured it was about time I used it.
Actually, there are a few things I haven't got around to lately, mostly because I've been waiting for something with the Jays to actually happen (other than sweet fuck all), so that I could include them in a Grab Bag or Roundup post or something-- things like mentioning the awesome redesign and vast amounts of Jays content at Mop Up Duty, or... something else. I'm not exactly sure what. (We all knew the Jays would be offering arbitration to Burnett, so it couldn't be that...)
Anyway, yeah, Godfrey. There was lots of talk last year that, when he left the Jays, he'd be moving up a couple floors at the Rogers campus, helping Uncle Ted steal the Bills from Buffalo. Instead, for some reason, he's jumped aboard the sinking ship that is print media. Specifically, the beard is the new President and CEO of the National Post.
What does this mean for the Post? If my experience with the Jays under Godfrey is any indication, I'm going to say more ads and the occasional homeless-looking man running laps around their building.
Can Godfrey save the Post? How the hell should I know? But I'm still going to guess a gigantic fucking no on that one. Print media? Seriously?

Can't beleive you guys didnt mention Kevin Mench signing with a Japanese team!?
i didn't even see that one!
Why is Mac from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia kissing my mom and wearing a John Olerud hat?
The best part is Barely Beardo getting off on it in the background.
weird
there's a whole lot of awesome going on in that picture.
on mench... just the name reminds me of what a drag of a shit season this was. ugh.
Good for Mench...I think it would be pretty cool to travel and play in Japan for a couple of years, especially after you've made a few million in the bigs (hopefully not invested in the S&P 500, or any stock market, for that matter).
For me, one of the most interesting aspects of Moneyball was the story about Billy Beane getting fleeced out of his signing bonus with the Mets ($120,000, if memory serves). Apparently he lost it in a dubious real estate scheme. So: he missed out on college, lost his signing bonus, and basically tanked as a prospect (in 6 major-league seasons, he hit 219/246/296). No wonder he was so motivated to use his front-office brains instead of his physical skills.
His background might also explain the Carlos Gonzalez trade; like Gonzalez, Beane couldn't hit as a 22-year-old rookie. And Beane was unable to hit for the next 5 years.
Why is Sarah Conner kissing Pat Borders?
Anyway, that video of Godfrey is delightful. It's hilarious how he actually thinks that beard works for him in any way. Add to that the fact that he's running around the Skydome in jogging pants, running like he has something up his ass, and his hobo impression is complete. Then he drops in a line about Ted Rogers doing a great job of supporting the team. The unintentional comedy is just awesome.
Parkses comments prove the need for more DJF cam. Where is that?
We'll need a sponsor for it. Someone will have to pony up so we can buy it-- but then it could be the Brad Fullmer Fan (TM) DJF Cam, or whoever wants to get us a sweet camera. Who's in?
Sarah Connor is such a slut. Kyle Reese, and then Pat Borders. Is it possible that Pat Borders could be the forefather of the resistance against SKYNET? I think so!
Imagine the love-child produced from that fling.
so will this mean that the post will actually have a meaningful sports section now?
What kind of camera?
I'll take any digital SLR with any lens.
Dunn wasn't offered arb. The new market inefficiency- spend now!
-brent in Korea
The National Post has decided to stop selling their newspapers to Torontonians for one week while they try and capture the rabid Detroit and Boston print media fans.
ZING!
Pat Borders is a pretty fine speciman of man beef. Look at those arms. How I long to feel their warm embrace.....
uncle ted died. hopefully someone who loves the jays will take over.
maybe ballseli should take over. fuck. get a next cell phone mogul in there. or mark cuban.. fucking jays.
RIP Uncle Ted; he did probably save the team when he took it over. So no more godfrey and no more anonymous mr. rodgers. He went to the same college at Uoft as I do. Condolences to his family
Awwww, Ted Rogers passed away =(.
Ted's dead, baby, Ted's dead.
not good for the jays, at least for this offseason...
He was a maverick and empire-builder. Rogers (the company) gets a lot of criticism around here, and it's true that its financial support of the team has been wavering lately. But Uncle Ted deserves credit for helping the Jays back on something approximating the right track.
The big question, of course, is what comes next. At the moment the Jays seem to be more Interbrew than Yes Network, but who knows?
Fuck off Parkes
