Rumour And Innuendo
I really tried to bring myself to care about the A.J. Burnett departure, but after realizing he wouldn't return months ago, his multi-year deal with the Yankees was as anticlimactic as a Friday night whiskey dicking.
Is it wrong that I'm having to temper my excitement over the Matt Clement signing? I know that this type of deal hasn't really worked out for Ricciardi in the past (see: The Ohka Crisis and John Thomson suffering through a season of right shoulder shittiness), but you couldn't possibly risk less for the opportunity to have a veteran pitcher round out the rotation. And even if the signing is merely a repeat of 2007, my fingers will still be crossed that Purcey and Romero will be that year's Marcum and McGowan?
Speaking of the starting rotation, the Blue Jays are reportedly "one of teams" interested in attaining fixer upper project Daniel Cabrera. Cabrera was non-tendered by the Orioles and with statistics that make batting practice pitchers envious it's easy to see why. However, it's tough not to take a flier on a 6'7" pitcher who consistently tosses a heater in the high nineties.
Like Clement, Cabrera could be a nice piece of shit to throw against the wall to see if he sticks.
Finally, thank God that someone else was stupid enough to save the Blue Jays from getting Sweet Furcal. Enjoy the third year of that contract, Atlanta.

46 rational and reasonable comments:
Now that Furcal is off the market, we can listen to Griffin chirp even more about how the Jays should sign Orlando Cabrera.
Well, pretty much every team with shortstop issues has now got their man (Tigers-Everett, Cards-Greene, Giants-Renteria, Braves-Furcal), except for the A's, who are too smart to go for O-Cab anyway. If JP did want him, and I don't think he should, he'd probably come cheap(er) at least.
JW
What is this whiskey dicking you speak of?
why don't we get a big fat bat, so JMac relieved by Scutaro is less of an issue.
And I would pick Daniel Cabrera up in a second and re-build him.
WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY!!!
Mos def on cabrera. If furcal in atlanta means yunel escobar is available. the jays have to be on it. It would be a chance to fix tat position for a at least the next 3-4 years.
They want pitching, though. Escobar would have been part of the Peavy deal. So... I don't know how that's going to work.
Like... do you really give up a Cecil for Escobar? That's probably where the conversation starts.
"However, it's tough not to take a flier on a 6'7" pitcher who consistently tosses a heater in the high nineties."
If by consistent you mean never, wow you're fucking nailing it Parkes. Cabrera has lost about 5 mph on his fastball since 4 years ago, when he COULD reach the high 90s.
I lost a couple MPH off my fastball. I'm still hitting 96-98 you ignorant grouchy Jew.
More like 94-96 but Ari is being a grouchy Jew to split hairs like that.
i doubt that even armsberg could save d.cabrera... i do like the throwing shit on the wall analogy though.
Cabrera is maxing out at 94 now on his fastball. But this doesn't negate the fact that Ari is being a total douche.
Fuck off Ari.
We can save the anonymous racism for the playground though, can't we?
From Baseball Reference
Similar pitchers through age 27:
1. Ryan Dempster (966)
2. Jeff Suppan (959)
3. Jamey Wright (958)
4. Chris Carpenter (955)
5. Allen Watson (948)
6. James Baldwin (945)
7. Matt Clement (945)
8. Ricky Bones (943)
9. Kyle Lohse (943)
10. Jason Jennings (942)
You could do worse...
First of all, I'm Greek you stupid racist assholes. It's Aristotle. Ever hear of Ari Onasis? So ya, fuck you?
And ignorance?! If you are still hitting 96-98 and lost a couple MPH off your fastball, then you were a starter throwing 98-100 = impossible.
And more like 92-94, but let's not split hairs anonymous. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1931&position=P
"But this doesn't negate the fact that Ari is being a total douche."
Can you imagine if Richard Griffin said that JP CONSISTENTLY comes out on the wrong end of trades? There would be a post up here in about 3 minutes ripping the shit out of him. I don't see why Parkes' writing shouldn't be held to the same standard, if he's going to be living in a glass house.
If you actually check shit out at brooks baseball, I was hitting 96 fairly consistently. It is by no means a stretch to refer to me as having a high nineties heater.
Jews >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Greeks
Simmer on the racist shit. Truth be told, I didn't check out his average fastball speed. I just assumed. I maintain he hits the high nineties regularly, and the game logs back it up . . . so, whatever.
You really got me, Ari. Boy is there pie on my face.
The volatile message board strikes again.
And you will continue to be wrong. He does not hit 97+ "regularly" (which you conveniently changed from consistently).
I like Hollywood and Mythology. I'm down with Jews and Greeks. More power to you.
-but not too much.....
Parkes concedes and Ari is still a douche. Fuck off Ari.
You must be very proud of yourself, Ari. Congratulations. Oh man, the embarrassment I'm suffering. God, I don't know what to do with myself.
The difference is that Parkes is usually humorous about derailing a Griffin overview. You're arguing over semantics and a couple miles per hour.
If I get a $95 Star Pass, how much will it actually cost me, with taxes and all other charges?
I see $15 convenience fee per pass, what does it mean that it is capped at $30 in total? Meaning if I order multiple passes I will only be charged $30 maximum?
Also, what is the $4 shipping fee for?
Anyone who can answer these questions is awesome.
YUCK to Cabrera. He's a fucking mess.
This fangraphs piece today put me off Cabrera. Plus as a Jay he won't get to dominate the Jays once a year to boost his numbers.
nice post lloyd.. sounds like we could be getting the '09 version of abenitez...
on a completely different point.. just heard from a friend.. that hoagie & toth were bragging about getting wbc tickets right behind homeplate... the same seats i was trying to land 2 months ago.. .. and when i was told that those tix were being reserved by MLB... fucking ticketweasels.. im glad they got canned. & i'm even happier they had a big send off for godfrey the day before so they got completely blindsided by their firings.
Wait. What?!? Canned?
stoeten i thought you wrote the story about them getting canned.. 24 of em....
and going off on another tangent.. just found this... started bawling uncontrollably. enjoy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rzBMdq2ISQ
oh god, that's hard to watch.
yeah, no,... so then, toth and hogan are still around?
still around and getting prime wbc tix... im assuming for free...
damn.
i don't mind hogan, so i guess that's ok. not so listenable since toth arrived.
i'll bet toth will be doing the wave behind homeplate.. fuck.. all i wanted to do was sit behind homeplate & let jason bay know that he was a terrible person for playing for the sawx... and eventually get kicked out by the crack skydome swat team
truly that is a noble dream
gyros and bagels are delicious
-brent in Korea
spanakopita > gyros
and Mike Toth is a god among men.
Fuck off Parkes
FIN
(This threat is now locked... the RCMP have been called.)
Donairs are superior to Gyro's in every way shape or form.

If you get more than one, you only pay the one conv. fee of $30.
The dudes in the ticket booth waived that crap for me last year
Have you ever made matzo ball soup with pita bread? Deeeeelish!
