Friday Brevity

Holy shit, it's Friday and I'm not even craving that first sweet sip of alcohol. Something...  something happened the other night. I can't quite recall. All I know is that, when I woke up this morning, I'd slept for about 20 of the previous 24 hours-- not well, mind you, but I have no other word for it than that. Before then... uh... not so much, I don't think. Who knows? My mind isn't quite functioning at the level it normally does, and looking back at some of my most recent posts, that's a scary thought. Anywho, this is about all I can muster right now . . .

People actually give a shit about not being able to get the MLB Network? (Bleacher Report)

Some tool is aghast at player salaries, because, you know, he doesn't quite understand supply and demand. (Barrie Examiner)

James Deacon makes some 2009 predictions that... yeah, I don't care either. (AOL Sports)

Marty York believes the Jays want Bobby Abreu, but isn't sure if they're willing to pony up the dough. (Metro)

There are streets in Mississauga named after Jays ca. 1999. Uh... slow news day? (Toronto Star, Google Maps)

Jordan Bastian previews the upcoming season and figures Janssen is in the lead for the fourth spot in the rotation, with Clement, Richmond and Cecil the other possibilities. (BlueJays.com)

Don Tabron, the last surviving member of the 1934 Chatham Colored All-Stars has died. (Chatham Daily News)

I scrounged around YouTube and found not only Roy Scheider's Tiger Town, but also the complete 1971 All-Star Game. Boner! (TheScore.com Blog)

what's wrong with a breu?

was referencing the source! :D

Abreu would make a fine DH for us if he's willing to take the pay cut.

Stoeten said...

Yeah.

If some "real" journalist is going to write an article about streets in Mississauga named after former Blue Jays, does the newspaper he works for have to publish it? And if they do, what does that tell you about the newspaper? Slow news day indeed.

Also, there is no mysterious schizophrenic "source" in Mary York's latest. Is he taking his meds again?

I watch Abreu down here in NYC and he is a very productive player BUT he is afraid of walls bigtime . He is also a very soft player, not a winner like Manny is. I'd rather see Manny make 75 mill for three years than get Abreu for two at a cheap rate of let's say 10 mill a year for two years. manny would radically light a fire under the ass of Wells, Rios , etc so on.

I don't think anyone's saying the Jays would rather have Abreu than Manny if money was no object.

Is Abreu going to sign a minor league contract with an invite to Spring Training?

Exactly. He will be playing elsewhere in 09.

Torgen said...

If spring training starts and someone like Abreu doesn't have a job, he's going to have to settle for less than he deserves. Obviously not a minor league deal, but maybe something we can afford that he wouldn't accept now.

Fuck off Parkes

Yeah, Manny's really developed a reputation as a clubhouse leader with strong defensive skills. He never gives up and is known to "light a fire under the ass" of his teammates, right?

If you're going to make an argument for the Jays to sign Manny, just say "I think the Jays should sign the better player because he's a better player". It would make a lot more sense.

Manny won 2 world series' for Boston, you retard. Who gives a shit about his "leadership" skills?

Boston management complained about him "giving up" all year, but he still put up a .950 OPS for them in '08.

"Manny won 2 world series' for Boston, you retard."

Single-handedly? That's pretty impressive... and news to me.

"Who gives a shit about his "leadership" skills?"

You, apparently, when you wrote "manny would radically light a fire under the ass of Wells, Rios , etc so on."

So do me a favor and jump off the Brooklyn Bridge. Dumb people annoy me.

Check. And then mate.

Without Manny, they aren't winning those World Series, fuckface.

"You, apparently, when you wrote "manny would radically light a fire under the ass of Wells, Rios , etc so on."

That wasn't me, douche. Leadership is meaningless, I'll take a guy that can mash.

"So do me a favor and jump off the Brooklyn Bridge. Dumb people annoy me."

Retards that attempt to quantity leadership as something meaningful annoy me, and I love in Toronto.
