Questions About Tonight's "State-of-the-Team Function"

Holy shit, is it the middle of February already? Because isn't that normally when the Jays hold their big State-of-the-Team season-ticket holders bullshit event? Yet, apparently it's tonight.

I thought I was just lazy for having not realized that until I saw Blair's article about it in this morning's Globe, but according to my sources (hahaha, yes, my sources) this is out of nowhere for pretty much everybody. There is normally plenty of notice given to the media, and it simply hasn't happened this year, from what I've been told.

Plus, I'm not sure if you've heard, but a lot of people are maybe a little preoccupied with something else tonight (of course, keep in mind that I'm a retard, and the inauguration takes place in the afternoon-- has already taken place, in fact)-- which leads me to a couple of questions. . .

Foremost in my mind: Um... are the Jays seriously making Cito miss the Obama inauguration to come up to Toronto for this fucking dog and pony show? Is it out of line for me to assume that Cito, in particular, might have wanted to be at home with his family-- or in Washington-- to see something like that?

I mean, of all the nights to pick to have their season-ticket-holder State-of-the-Team question-and-answer bullshit! (I'm still a retard, and the inauguration is still an afternoon thing-- I knew this, too. You never see that shit happen at night! Mr. Anderson would be ashamed!)

. . .

OK, so you may have read this post when it first went up, and are noticing now that it's something of a giant clusterfuck. Ugh. Unfortunately, the scheduling conspiracy with regard to the inauguration that I was on about simply doesn't work out. Fans won't be forced to choose one event or the other-- though it still sucks for Cito, I presume.

But still-- still-- what's with the short notice here? Especially to the media. According to our commenters, invites were only being received last week, and a lot of media members-- again, according to my sources, hahaha-- seem to have been out of the loop until this morning.

Hmmm... it's almost like the Jays don't want fans or media to show up and ask them questions about what a fucking joke of an off-season this has been. Bwuh?!?

If this really is what it looks like, it may seriously be fucking horseshit even beyond the level I thought these fucks were capable of. And to think, I once actually respected Paul Beeston and thought that maybe he wouldn't just fall in line with these swine. . .

OK, I guess I don't really know who's driving this decision, but whoever it is, talk about contempt for your fucking fan base.

I mean, shit, if you're going to be losers, at least be lovable losers you fucking arrogant chickenshit pieces of fuck. Fuck this team.

[/tinfoil hat] [/clusterfuck of a post]

(If there are season ticket holders out there, I'd love to know how much notice you had before getting invited to this thing. I really don't want to blow this out of proportion-- um... wait, no, I totally do want to blow this out of proportion, but not if I'm way off base.)

It's funny you mentioned that last paragraph because I was going to leave a comment about how I only got my invitation last MONDAY!

Eye Glasses said...

Yup, this is FUCKING BULLSHIT. Well put, Stoeten.

Stoeten said...

hold on, i'm a retard.

Eye Glasses said...

also... hearing from the season ticket holders is one thing.

But the fact that the media was not issued a press release informing them of this event (ie. come on down, bring your cameras/pad n' paper, ask us questions) is more then enough to blow this up as complete horseshit.

it would be the media that make their answers/bullshit excuses a front page story tomorrow... and, clearly, this did NOT happen...

complete crap.

If the Leafs tried to pull this shit - it would be one of the stories of the year and fans would go mental.

Stoeten, you are NOT blowing this out of proportion. You should be applauding yourselves for paying it the proper attention.

The whole point is that I'm a season ticket holder and I found it weird that they sent the invitation out only a week in advance. It's still a story because it's on inauguration day but don't you think Cito may have wanted to actually BE THERE (in Washington)? That's the real story and now he probably had to watch it in either his hotel room, a restaurant or maybe somewhere in the Rogers Centre. Stoeten, still a big deal.

Stoeten said...

Yeah, exactly. I think so, too.

The Ack said...

Maybe Cito is a staunch Republican?

jokes aside, I think "if you're going to be losers, at least be lovable losers you fucking arrogant chickenshit pieces of fuck. Fuck this team."....is a bit much. I'm not even going to address the Spencer Kyteian pronouncement that the Jays are already deemed to be losers.

Anonymous said...

Spencer's right, it's just that he has shitty style

Che Obama said...

rogers are losers. jp is a fucking masshole loser. this is bullshit stoeten, I think non-season ticket holders and bloggers should storm the event and create a shitstorm. REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!

here is question i'd like to see asked: where the fuck is the new president? you know, the one beeston promised by spring training. is it just me or does it seem like the entire business of the ballclub has been on hold waiting for a new president to be hired?

Stoeten said...

Yeah. I kind of assume they're intentionally holding on bringing in a new president because it legitimizes their bullshit "holding pattern".

Dpedd61 said...

I went to the flex pack Q and A with Cito last night and I got at least 3 weeks notice for it.

Stoeten said...

Hmmm... Just Cito, though? No Beeston or JP? Because there's only so much Cito can say.

Stoeten said...

and by say I mean "answer for".

Classic example of why you guys need to just keep doing your stuff well and drop the airs of rivaling professional journalists. Keep on keeping on the funny!

Guarantee you spent a lot of money on J-school-- am I right?

Anonymous said...

Holy shit, that post was fucked. Funny, though.

Stoeten said...

Yeah, sorry.

Didn't want to just erase the spots where I was completely wrong, but yeah... bit of a fucking mess.

Anonymous said...

Fuck off Parkes

Anonymous said...

J-school seems like a huge waste of time and money these days, what with the economic downturn, the steep decline of print media (which has lead to massive layoffs), and the emergence of digital media in which everyone--trained or untrained--is a content producer.

I don't know--anyone else feel differently? I thought about applying to J-school but the job prospects post-graduation seem pretty dim. Hello, blogging. Hello, citizen journalism. Hello, working in "communications." Do you need a journalism degree to do these things?

Anonymous said...

I didn't go, but I got the same invite that Dpedd61 was talking about just after New Years.

Half-full Glass said...

Things are going to be great! This is all part of the plan. No need to worry.

What a useuless pice of shit acquisition JP made with bautista - he HAD to tender him and now he makes over $2 mill while Dunn/Abreu are sitting there and would probably play for $7 mill - heck TY WIGGINGTON would probably cost less than Bautista and he is far more useful...

Stoeten said...

I honestly don't know anything about the topic, really, but I'd pose that journalism isn't going anywhere, it's just in a serious state of flux (der). I didn't go to J-school, so I could easily say, you know, fuck J-school, go out there, blog, write shitloads on your own, and that that's more important and a better way to forge a career, but it's different for different people, and I'm sure there's value to J-school, absolutely. And presumably (hopefully) it's not like what's going on in journalism schools right now is a complete reflection to the raging against the dying of the light that you see from many media dinosaurs. Plus, any post-secondary program in the arts has fairly dim prospects if you think about it that way. It really genuinely is what you make of it. So... I can't shit on J-school, necessarily-- though if you want to get into print, obviously, it's not ideal timing. I mentioned J-school in response to Holmesy, though, because-- and maybe I'm wrong-- the words "professional journalists" read to me like code for all the entitlement of the MSM and the animosity towards bloggers, which we should all know by now is fucking bullshit. Sounds straight from the mouth of Prof. Head-up-his-ass.

Yeah, why the hell did we tender this guy? What am I missing?

giambi signed for 5 million, we signed bautista, frasor, accardo for 4 million...wtf are we doing.

Not letting lame duck GM touch another goddamn thing until the new president arrives and kicks his sorry ass to the curb, I'd wager.

The Southpaw said...

I can definitely see the complaint about fans getting short notice but I'm...pretty skeptical...that they would think they could get away without the media noticing and if you aren't convinced you can pull that off, you don't try.

I'd be more likely to expect ineptittude rather than an evil plot.

As for Cito and the inauguration, and maybe I say this because I'm f'n drowning in the masturbatory glee that is sweeping in waves over the American Media, I don't see the big deal. I'd find it VERY VERY surprising if the jays had REQUIRED Cito to forgo the inauguration (had he been planning a trip) in order to be in Toronto.

You can't keep that a secret, and the bad PR from such a story getting out would be legendary for a thousand years.

So I don't buy the "how dare they do this to Cito" riff at all.

But yeah, fans - I would think - need more than a week to make plans like this sometimes.

JP tendered him because he doesn't want to look like he gave up Robinson Diaz for a few weeks of production. There is absolutely no other reason to pay Bautista over $2 million in this market...

Anonymous said...

Robinson Diaz sucks anyway, why would he think anybody would care?

Stoeten said...

That seems the obvious answer, but... SERIOUSLY? There's got to be something else, doesn't there? Otherwise, yeah, pretty fucking useless.

Stoeten said...

Beyond useless, actually. Fucking dumb bullshit.

Justin Holmes said...

Stoeten, simmer. Stop trying to be a dick, stop getting fucking angry all the time and just put some effort into being funny again. You used to be really good at that.

One of my coworkers has season tickets. He says he got his invite in the first week of Jan.

Still not much notice, though.

Torgen said...

Isn't Bautista in the same boat as Reed Johnson last year? ie. since he's arbitration eligible, his contract is non-guaranteed, so we can release him before the season starts and only pay him one month's salary if we decide he's truly redundant. Not that he necessarily will be, since he's the depth at third and a possible platoonmate for Overbay should the latter's platoon splits continue this year.

Anonymous said...

I agree with professional journalist above. You lovable snarks aren't journalists. You're funnier and responsible for watching over the entitled (credentialed) MSM.

Putting you in a locker room would ruin the outsider's perspective.

Stoeten said...

Definitely true. Wouldn't want to be in the room, either. There's a place for everyone, for sure. But I'll continue resent the idea that we can't "break a story" just because we're not "professional journalists", if that's ok.

Lovable?

Andy Mc said...

I'd say they plan on keeping Bautista to spell Lind/Snider/Overbay/Rolen. He has some pop, and can play almost anywhere. He will play vs. LHP, and when Rolen needs a day off.

He will be half of the "Killer B's," along with Barrett. It is not unreasonable to expect 30+ HR between them.

Bautista could really shock some people, and he could also straight up platoon with Lind in LF, with Snider at AAA, and Ruiz at DH.

I am not saying this makes me comfortable, but it is better than the fiasco we dealt with in '08.

Darren Priest said...

Maybe nobody "owned" this event until much later than usual due to the layoffs. And maybe they are only doing the bare minimum because, with Ted gone, Rogers wants to be free of this team. Maybe the senior people aren't giving the troops timely orders because they are trying to figure out the best way to unload the franchise. Maybe Toronto can only stomach one perennial loser...and they have chosen the one that plays on ice. One things for sure: intellectual property ain't what it used to be! So everyone send your kids to MMA school.

What's that? Have I been drinking? Why do you ask?

Hi.

I think the reasons for the 'emergency' seasonticketholder event is probably pretty obvious. The deadline for renewals to pay for 2009 is February 2. I suspect the renewal rate is lower than they'd expected, thus the January gathering instead of the usual mid-February. The other reason is that st games start 2 weeks earlier this year, in mid-Feb, due to the WBC. Hope this helps.

Anonymous said...

thats because they are losing fans' interest with their cheap assed fucking rogers cunt fuck hairy assed motherfucking shit stained cum ragged rat soup-twelve-sandwich eating mother fucking slutty whore shitsack fuckwad clitdicked non strategy.

Andy Mc said...

Is this thing broadcast anywhere? Is someone gonna put it on youtube? Or even just audio? I really fucking hope so.

Darren Priest said...

Anon at 6:41..."hope this helps"?? Honestly, how does what you said help? Are you trying to help out? Pitch in? You got some inside info? St starts earlier due to the WBC and the Jays just figured that out and decided, "Holy shit, we need to slow smoke up the asses of our delusional season ticket holding fan base!" Still smacks of scrambling, but then you would know this if you were one of the peons not laid off.

Oh, I hope this helps!

On a somewhat related subject, does anyone know when single game tickets go on sale?
