Game Threat: Jays (6-3) @ Twins (4-5)

Scott Richmond gets his second start of the year for the Jays, after starting the ridicurously long Cleveland Indian home opener, included an insufferable 3+ hour rain delay. He faces the Twins' young right-hander Scott Baker, who will be making his first start after beginning the year on the disabled list.
Now, in fantasy baseball, you're always wary of using a pitcher who's making his first start back after an injury, and let's hope Baker shows some rust, because last year he was 11-4 in 28 starts with a 3.45 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.

185 rational and reasonable comments:
May the Jackie Robinson spirit infuse the bats of VDub and Rios.
p.s. fuck hockey playoffs
even though Rios isn't black, he needs an infusion
Baker Vs. Jays:
3 G, 0-1, 19.1 IP, 3.72 ERA.
Fun facts!
Fuck Hockey!
Had a steak and I popped me open a carlsberg! Let the game begin!
fuck i'd love a beer
It's too early in the morning to think about that kind of stuff.

Ditch the brew, always reach for a generously mixed rum and coke.
FUCK ME! Trying to write my thesis thats due tomorrow and watch the game and my fucking file got corrupted. Lost 2 days of fucking work.
How in the shit did you manage to fuck that one up?
How scary are the at bats with morneau against richmond going to be tonight?
Very. He's so horrible against lefties.
might as well just IBB him each round.
Just glad he didn't go deep with that hanger.
That pitch was supposed to be down and out of the zone to Kubel. Thank goodness he only grounded it.
Barrett is fucking useless.
Bring up Arencibia
Anyone know which station the game is on tonight?
Not be to be unpatriotic, but Richmond's not very impressive
Bring up Robinzon Diaz.
Oh yeah -- we traded him for an all star shitbag.
Anon, email me and I'll hook you up. Shouldn't post the link, MLB will block it.
Hill has made some nice plays this year, but he's also botched some key grounders. His missed DP ball last night arguably cost the Jays the game, and tonight's (admittedly a tough play, but one he normally makes) indirectly led to the two runs allowed by Richmond.
Just because JP has had a lot of success with the prospects doesn't mean that every single one of them is ready for MLB the moment they step on the field. We don't want to be like Yankee$ fans do we?

We don't want to be like Yankee$ fans do we?
We should put that on T-shirts.
Anon, email me and I'll hook you up. Shouldn't post the link, MLB will block it.
Nah! Just need to know what radio station it's on, not needing a link.
Nice. I love that those liners get out in Minny.
The Greatest Blue Jay Ever does it again.
You gotta give Hill a break though. It's still only 10 games into the season, and the guy is lucky to be playing, let alone playing well.
Quick Snatch!
Absolutely FROZEN rope homer.
I believe its on Hamilton's talk station. 820, maybe?
I believe in Scott Rolen.
Tell us more about this quick snatch Pat Tabler!
Thank you St. Louis and do enjoy Glaus.
Barrett only misplayed 3 balls and let a run slip in last inning, but by all means guys give him a verbal blowjob while he's at the plate.
@8:35 nice
I e-mailed you, dave for the l!nk
Barrett doesn't become an official Blue Jay until he punches an opposing player or one of his own pitchers.
I hope this works:
http://www.freebaseballradio.com/Toronto.html
Richmond has a sneaky fastball.
Radio, by the way.
Looks like Snider learned his lesson. Way to go Cito.
Nice.
I actually thought Span came down with that.
oh the plexi glass!!
HILL BONER!!
Someone give Rios and Wells concussions...
Concussion my ass! Where did this power come from?
VERNON BONERS ABOUND!!!!
Batting practice must have been late.
Someone in the left field pissed off the Jays during BP, now they're getting revenge!
Remember when that guy called Wilner last night saying Wells has done nothing and was batting .100? Good times.
Pwned. Wells = .325
Oh yeah, definitely big props to Hill for the comeback and the way he's playing overall. I think he'll get fully tuned up in the field pretty fast.
Someone threw a beach ball? Forfeit!
Walk him.
Wrong count: 34
The Wells hitting .100 thing was likely a reference to RISP. Which hasn't change tonight. Then again, if it was a am radio call in type, he probably doesn't know what RISP is.
Anybody else notice the new theme in the Jays commercials ?
Where the old ones were showing the players in a cartoonish and ridiculous way, the new ones show how much the fans love them, e.g. the Doc, Wells, Rolen commercials
Hi, we're the Toronto Blue Jays, and we help our pitchers out.
That homer by Barrett was impressive.
It's dinger night!
I'd honestly rather see him jack AJ Pierzynski in the face.
Should have guessed that this guy was going to have trouble with the long ball when Scutaro hits the first pitch the warning track
Anyone know blue jay homerun record for a game?
Snider's getting left out of the homerun fest
I think Snider's afraid that if he hits the ball he might get benched.
in 87 jays hit 10 HRs against the orioles
just sayin' but uhh, Scott Rolen's trade value is probably pretty good right now...
Richmond is cruisin'?
I'm agreeing with Cito taking things in a slow structured way with Snider. There's no doubt the guy is going to be a slugger, but this way gives him time to work out any angst and learn how to be mature. This will help him in the long run during his career. And it shows that he's not expected to carry the team yet, so the other players know they should be doing what they're supposed to
Hill = absolutely nails!
C'mon Rios, time for more home runs.
Well, it’s Wednesday night’s game and I am PUMPED. Both Overbay and Snider are starting vs. a righty and it turns out the two of them are a sure run between them when they hit. If they each get 4 PA’s, that’s 4 runs right there!!! We’ve got a huge advantage.
Plus, it doesn’t matter if our second baseman boots doubleplay balls all night long, because it’s pinchhitting platoon advantages that win or lose games.
Can’t wait to see the rock’nroll from Lyle and Travis. And it’s cool that Aaron doesn’t make plays ’cause it really doesn’t matter nearly as much as who has a one ab pinch hit.
Lastly, I hope JP hires back Carlos Tosca as a bench coach to help Cito manage the bullpen. I’ve been a big booster of Carlson, but it was obvious in retrospect that Carlson should have been taken out at Crede. Tosca would have made 3 or 4 pitching changes that inning, and his record of success doing that can’t be ignored.
Mike Wilner's comment on not caring the least about whether Bautista ever feels confident vs. a righty because he should be on the bench when they’re in the game, was right on the Moneyball. After all, other teams may need to think about a thirdbaseman who’s going to miss a good portion of the season, but not the Jays. As every JPfanboy knows, Scott Rolen’s a lock for 162 games a year, and there’s no way Bautista’s should have to face righties ever!
WTF?!?
Lyle and Travis were up in the second and third respectively, and Lyle grounded out to the right side, a sure outlier there, that never happens, and Travis struck out!? That must mean that given the odds, we’re due for two runs from those two next time.
We allI know that Travis never would have struck out last night though. I mean, if Cito thinks that a mug like Jesse Crain could ever strike out a rookie like Travis, it just shows how he’s never read your blog or even DJF. In fact, he probably doesn’t even read blogs because he’s so ‘old school’.
And the only reason he's now struck out twice tonight is because last night he didn't get to face Jesse Crain, he of the .705 OPS vs. lefties. That's what made him strike out tonight.
You can't pay for stupidity like JB's posts.
Campbell sure was fucking excited by that Cuddyer catch. Ginger cunt fuck.
Shut up Griffin. Haven't you got a column to write? People actually pay for your stupidity, at least mine is free.
I'm actually glad JC isn't a homer like those douchebags for the White Sox.
Hard to believe this team only had one guy with 20 homers last year.
They've been so fun to watch.
These Super8 radio commercials will be the death of me.
The ten home run game is also the MLB record
September 14, 1987
Whitt hit three, Bell and Mulliniks had two each
Ducey, McGriff and Moseby had one each
http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/TOR/TOR198709140.shtml
Just throwing it out there, but why the fuck would we care if Rolen had good trade value right now. This is the most fun I've had watching the Jays in 4 or 5 years. Not that I'm expecting them to continue this tear all year, but let's give these guys a month or two to prove what we really have here. And don't you dare tell me nothing, because this last week has been a giant flip off to all the doomsayers in the off season by the Jays.
hey jerkwad.... why aren't you live blogging the game. I'm too poor to pay for non-cbc programming.
Way to go Albino, right off the turnip!
that was pretty fucking bizarre.
let's see what snidey sense can do.
That's actually a good play if you are at first and a potential double play ball. Let it hit you to prevent a double play.
What a shit quote from Cito. Why even start a rookie with that dinosaur logic?
Overbay was lucky Lind broke up his patented double play ball.
Nice respect theyre showing to snider!
If anyone cares, and Delgado lovers should, Delgado just bombed one in Queens.
Not only are they losing, but they're getting beach balls thrown at them
haha
Shit!! Who are these players!!
Scu-ta-rooooo
The first one Carlos hit in Cinci was crushed too. He actually hit one right the fuck out of Shea last September.
Baltimore is getting beat up by Texas. We may own first place again this year!
Oh yeah, I guarantee that they don't intentionally walk Bautista.
Hey Drunks, vjust got in. Jays look fucking great.
PLAYOFFS!!!
Big inning. Three run jack by on the way, courtesy of Alex "Mysterious Staph Infection" Rios.
Eat shit twinkies!
nasty 0-2 knuckler, nicely done hill.
it would be nice if they could carry these bats to Liriano but not likely.
Long inning for Richmond to be sitting.
Fangraphs is at 98% now ^^
-brent in Korea
Yeah, taking 3/4 on the road would be huge. We got a good shot - Liriano hasn't seemed to be right this year.
Sleeman's Draught and a 9-2 lead... all is good in my world
agreed James, the Dr will deliver
Nice catch Rios, got the wheels moving Devo Style.
nice catch Rios, at least we pay you for something.
was Richmond throwing a 2seam earlier in the game? it's definitely not a changeup. what a tricky fucker.
Nails grab by Rios. Phe-fucking-nomenal.
PLAYOFFS
PLAYOFFS!
Ooooooooooooverbay. Not too shabby this game for anyone really...
The hitters have to pile it on as no lead is safe in the American League
Isn't Cito concerned that by taking out Rolen for Bautista he might give Rolen some complex? One of the best defensive third basemen pulled for one of the worst ever.
Seriously, someone has to tell our manager that it isn't 1989 anymore. An eight run lead means shit in 2009.
True, It's like the eastern front in WWII
TOTAL WAR
Hey JB, Rolen has a bit of an injury history. Or have you forgotten?
Nice game from Richmond... I am pleasantly surprised.
I called my new GF after the first inning out of frustration. I get off the phone in the 6th (she's that awesome) and WOW.
I'm going to start paying more attention to her when the Jays are in need of a rally.
The fact that Wilner predicts the Jays will miss the playoffs this year suggests that things are going swimmingly. (See last year's 4+ months of predictions on Miked Up that the Rays were perpetually on the verge of collapse.)
Don't get me wrong--I think Wilner does a great job, but his playoff predictions are a bit wonky.
According to MLB Gameday Camp's changeup is 2 mph slower than his fastball... That's not going to fool too many people...
uh Mr. Dickey, you learn at age 8 as a pitcher to never do that.
Even Johnny Mac dribbles out a hit !
So..... none of his predictions will ever be correct now that he's guilty of being wrong about the '09 Jays just like about 80% of the baseball-watching population?
I am extremely excited about the Jays right now but I don't want to get ahead of myself. Remember the '06 Orioles? They started like 37-16 and then finished 4th in the AL.
Hey Cito - Spend some QT with Alexis!
Ooooooooooooverbay. Not too shabby this game for anyone really...
Hey Brandon, I'd like you to meet Alex Rios
LL Cool J looks like rick romero eh?
Nice debut for Murphy Brown.
Rios made a decent catch, and 8 out of 9 ain't bad, right?
Alright fine, Rios is sucking up the joint, but the awesomeness of everyone else makes up for it, no?
Huzzah... Bill Murphy for the Cy Young!
Good call Bergman!
Im late to the party and it looks like I missed out. Fucking rocking it tonight.
Leyva fucked up.
someone tell JC to chill - is a 10-2 game
OBay............100% useless
Is that supposed to be ironic coming from Dave Bush?
Ribbies for Snider!
This is great, but I think our year is really 2010. We will have Marcum, McGowan, and Cecil. Arencibia will also be knocking on the door. Snider also won't be hitting last.
Both the Yankees and Red Sox will have some aging issues as well. I just wish we had this offence last year when we had the best pitching in baseball. It has got to all sync sometime!
Also to the anonymous shitbag who was slagging on Snider for striking out a few times. He has been on three times tonight so thanks for coming out. 2 walks and a double. Nice.
Attaboy Lunch Box!
It looks like Matsuzaka might be out for a while.
Healthy dozen.
Fuck off Parkes
Good point JB. Snider is gonna strike out a ton, but he makes such solid contact to all fields that he won't have trouble hitting for a good average.
Fuck off Stoten
League has been relegated to "Frasor" status.
Fuck off Stoener
PLAYOFFS!!!
How hard is my boy League throwing?
Nice play Jose
If he takes walks like Adam Dunn he would be a complete player. And he I think he likes baseball so JP would approve.
JB, do you even know adam dunn?
I should clarify that -- my idea of a complete hitter is someone who takes a lot of walks and hits with power (see Adam Dunn and Gene Tenace).
I could care less if they K all the time. Dunn may K a lot, but he still makes fewer outs than 95% of other players.
wow, just looked up tenace's numbers, he walked like a mofo. .241 avg, .388 obp career
@ chris from windsor
I don't want to see Rolen traded anymore then the next guy but... is this not exactly what the jays wanted to see from him early ie, proving he is a) healthy b) productive in order to drive up his trade value (or make him actually tradeable)
Great start from the Jays, but they have a long way to go to be a playoff team, and freeing up some salary while you can may not be a bad idea, and now you may be able to get something back in terms of baseball talent that could make the 2010, 2011 teams that much better. I don't see any potential trades for him right now - but having Rolen off to such a great start is really, really good news for the jays.
6 1/3 IP 1ER from Richmond?? Awesome.
Gene Tenace worked the count better than any other hitter in his day. It's funny that he is now regarded as teacher who tells his students to swing away. Cito on the other hand....
Seriously, is their anyone that still thinks St. Louis got the better of the Rolen deal?
It isn't even close, fuck Troy Glaus and his tree stump mobility, his me me me attitude and his fucking steroids. Rolen is one of my all time favourite Blue Jays to watch. Glaus reminded me of Richie Sexson.
There was never any doubt that Rolen healthy was better than Glaus healthy.
Rolen > Glaus - but glaus had a better year last year.
Drunk Jays fans call...
Jesus christ. I came home just in time to see the Jays beat the Twins on the last strike, then immediately Sportsnet goes to Sportsnet Connected. Now it's been 20 straight fucking minutes of hockey. I love hockey but god damn it's April, I want baseball highlights at some point you retards.
this rolen lover is hammered
I'm at a Glaus for words.
did rolen ever mail order steroids directly to his house?
I wish it was a getaway day afternoon game tomorrow so I could just sit at my desk and listen to the game instead of fucking working.
rolen: .300/.350/.500 30 HR
Apparently Texas wont be ceding the "Best Offense" title without a fight.
As much as Id love to see it, if Rolen hits 30 home runs Ill eat my hat.
this caller has no point...
and people call wilner a homer?
Bastian tweets:
Bob Elliott is singing along to Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places", playing here at the Metrodome. Hilarious.
classic.
stoeten, you with me? snider. hill. rolen. they COULD do it. and i've been saying it since january.
Wilner could sell igloos to eskimos if Rogers told him to
he'll get all these point in ... then "i gotta go"
Fat guy is going to wear gold thong.
Fuck, hang up on this loser Mike!
cant' break me
listen to this moron, calling for jp's head... and wilner cut my drunken rant off? homer...wilner? nope.
i love how people talk themselves into circles in trying to make an argument to get JP fired...
hey, anyone else want to go throw things at the fat guy in the gold thong?
Can we throw twinkies?
Me.
I'm so there with 2 cartons of eggs.
Fat guy in a gold thong just set back the fire JP movement by 10 years
do any of you guys agree with me? believe it. MOONRAKER.
Can someone post a photo of people throwing things at gold thong guy in front of the dome? That would be...er...gold.
ok wilner's paying these idiots to call in
Can we throw things at the rambling crazy guy on right now too?
Hey lookie there, Wilner accepted someone's point against JP. I'm so proud.
what is it with a 7-3 team that makes all these idiots want to fire the GM?
fuck I hate Toronto sports fans.
That's because Wilner is rational and sane. He said all along that Mencherson didn't work and it was on J.P. not to keep running them out there.
Wilner isn't rational or sane. He's an out of control big fish, small pond little Hitler.
I don't get how you clowns can take him seriously.
Because he is almost always right? And he backs that up with logic and facts? Hard not to take guys like that seriously.
I am not a Toronto sports fan. Just pointing out the obvious . . . that in a down year in 2008 when the Yankees tanked, the Jays took advantage of that opportunity, while having the best pitching in baseball, by releasing the cleanup hitter (Thomas) during a season in which 30-homer Glaus had been traded for 10-homer Rolen and nothing was done in the course of the season to replace that offence . . . Bay went to Boston, Dunn went to Arizona and J.P. landed Mench and Wilkerson. Opportunity missed. That was J.P.'s window to be a winner.
And for the record, I am a drunk Jays fan at the moment
That is a good point, although Thomas sucked in Oakland too, and in order to get Bay the Sox gave up Manny.
