Friday Load Of Shit

cook0508

Sorry for the offensive picture here, it’s just the first thing that came up when I Googled “piece of shit”.

This Was The Second Thing…

Lifelong Jays fan Joel Timmerman is soliciting other teams, according to the OC Register, because poor baby is sick of what’s going on with the team, and because he’s seen fans in every sport pull this unfunny, unoriginal attention-whoring bullshit every offseason since about 1998. Do I even need to bother writing out the words “go fuck yourself” to this guy? Worthless.

Somebody Out There Needs To Do This…

According to the Toronto Star an “indiscreet” member of the Rogers family actually placed a fucking ad in the paper last Sunday, looking for a live-in butler. Maybe this is why it took so long for them to find a damn new team president for the Jays—who the fuck reads newspaper classifieds anymore?

Vote Lind?

MLB.com sucks, frankly. It’s not user-friendly, and nine times out of ten a story will come out elsewhere before it hits the newswire on their own damn site (also, they don’t let you embed their video, which for a league you’d think would want a shit-tonne of free promotion, is beyond stupid), so with the exception of reading the fine work of Jordan Bastian, I hardly ever go there. So maybe there are banner ads everywhere about this and I’ve just completely missed them, but it’s the first time I’m hearing that Adam Lind “has been nominated for two This Year in Baseball (TYIB) awards by mlb.com.” That comes according to the Herald Bulletin (of Central Indiana), who explain:

Fans can log on to mlb.com or bluejays.com, click on the TYIB button and vote for Lind an unlimited number of times through Dec. 11.

“I kind of feel like I have to stuff the ballot boxes,” Lind’s father, Al, said. “He kinda seems to always be the underdog.”

The younger Lind has been nominated in two categories — Unsung Star and Performance.

His competition for unsung star includes teammate Aaron Hill, Philadelphia outfielder Jayson Werth, Texas outfielder Nelson Cruz and Arizona third baseman Mark Reynolds.

. . .

“It’s nice to have Major League Baseball recognize me,” Lind said. “It shows at least they know who we are.”

Single tear…

Quickly

Will Hill gives us a nice shout out in his latest piece for TSN, as he examines the—ugh—Yankees’ victory.

According to Down Jones Newswires, via the Wall Street Journal, “Paul Beeston, president and chief executive of the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club and Rogers Centre, was appointed as a director of Gluskin Sheff & Associates Inc. (GS.T), according to a person familiar with the appointment.” Because… um… he has nothing better to do, I guess?

According to Jordan Bastian at BlueJays.com, Kevin Millar has filed for free agency. Now, I can’t quite remember… is he a Type A?

The Brewers have traded JJ Hardy to Minnesota for Carlos Gomez. So… say goodbye to that fantasy.

The remarkably fucking awesome Ghostrunner On First has some exclusive footage of the Yankees parade.

As the first commenter on this post reminds me, comedian Bill Burr had a great rant about the Yankees on yesterday's Opie and Anthony show, which you can check out over at (shameless plug) The Score.

UPDATE: LATE ADDITIONS

Hey Bleacher Report piece of shit Walker Daniels, your team just fucking bought the fucking World Series, now you entitled fucking horse fuckers are going to act like Roy Halladay is coming to the Yankees, without even hedging your fucking dipshit fantasy with a "maybe". Fuck off with a gun.

Speaking of fucking off with a gun, that's one of the many wonderful swears used by Drew Magary over at Deadspin with his latest delightful piece, Fuck Your Parade, Yankees.

Better yet, go here for it.

In case anyone was wondering, I'm not Joel Timmerman.

I'm already in the process of turning a west coast wedding into an excuse to see the Jays-Mariners 2 game series. I'll be following this piece of shit team for life.

Gluskin Sheff & Associates Inc.

Hmmmmmmmm?

Any chance that is going to be a consortium that puts together a bid to buy the Blue Jays?

Ass-licking bullsh*t stupid dumb-ass motherf*cking dinosaur.

I hardly ever go there. ESPN is better for MLB content.

is joel timmermann one of those fake umpire douchebags?

The hot stove is heating up, how bout some discussion. Hardy is gone, so now who do we need for a SS

Anonymous said...

With Hardy gone, O-Cab will be looking for work. Jack Wilson & the Mariners are supposedly talking extension. Lean pickings! Brandon Wood maybe? Though if Figgins leaves the Halos maybe they'll hang onto him.

JB said...

We also need a backup centre fielder. We barely have a starting one and couldn't offer the Brewers anything for Hardy. I think there has to be a Joey Gathright/track star/pinch run/defensive outfielder type guy on the team next year. Of course Cito would have no clue how to use him effectively.

I would say let Scutaro walk and talk the draft picks, but who the heck do you replace him with? I have a feeling that Marco's market may not as good as it should be because the signing team has to give up those picks. He would have to sign at a discount much like the problem Orlando Cabrera had last offseason.

Alex has to stay away from "projects" and veterans because Cito would feel obligated to play them. I do not want to see any Millars/Delluccis/Wilkersons/Menchs at spring training. I am sure that if Frank Thomas was invited to spring training he would make the team and Cito would bat him 3rd.

Stedron said...

Joel - I went out to Seattle back in 2006. It's a pretty cool place to watch a Jays game because all the Western Canada people come down. Good atmosphere.

Peter D said...

I am hoping Brandon Wood is the starting SS for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2010.

Stoeten said...

I'm pretty sure getting a SS for 2011 is all that really matters. No sense blowing their load on a band-aid.

Chill said...

So we've now reached the end of the week and no word from AA (or anyone for that matter) on 'the plan'. Has he already developed Beestonitis?

I'm pretty sure that signing any vetrans to a one year deal will only mean that the Cito will play him every day in every high leverage situation no matter how shitty he's playing because the guy will be playing for a contract. And you know, we need to put the players' future ahead of that of the team. Holy shit.

Fuck it's going to be a long 100 days...

Anonymous said...

I believe there's been a couple of quotes from AA basically saying there's no rush & that he would know where things stood for GM meetings - which I think are...well, tomorrow to the 9th - or thereabouts.
Bah.

Chill said...

Oh good, that means we still have 16 hours or so? Plenty of time. No rush guys. Make sure that you take the right road. Just stay the fuck away from the status quo!

Bwilly said...

I think AA needs to look for a SS via trade, I actually thought Hardy would command more. THis years FA SS market is pretty weak, next year assuming all the options are picked up isn't much better, even if an option is declined it probably means something happened and we don't want that player anyways. I'd love to see Drew other than not sure anything else may be available. Coco Crisp could be that 4th OF/pinch runner the team hasn't had in awhile.

I personally think AA needs to keep the plan tight lipped, we'll find out soon enough hopefully mid way through the GM meetings. If nothing happens there then he better come out with it.

Stoeten said...

Yeah, I'm not to worried about him not saying what he's thinking-- as long as he's got some idea what to do.

Let's start seeing some moves!

REAN said...

A GM who plays his cards close to his chest?

It's going to take a while for us fans to get used to such a different approach.

Anonymous said...

What's wrong with Scutaro at SS, I mean if the Jays can't even spend that much money to offer Scutaro a 2 year deal then what's the point just name the team the Triple a Jays and bring up the entire 51's roster.

Anonymous said...

Now where'd that Russ Adams fella get to? There's a guy who coulda played us some SS!

Stoeten said...

It's strictly about money with Scutaro. He's 34, has never been as good as this year-- which was a contract year-- and they get two quality draft picks out of him when he signs elsewhere because he's Type A. So... he has to provide a lot of value to offset the picks they'd give up by re-signing him, and with the age and contract year as red flags, that's a considerably tougher call. I don't think they lack the funds to get him, it's just, they have to balance the cost with the possible benefits, and frankly, it seems like they're not going to really give a shit about winning games until at least 2011, so that money's probably better spent elsewhere, unless they can strike a very team-friendly deal.

Stoeten said...

Er... NOT strictly about money.

Hey, hey, hey. *What* is going *on* here?

Scutaro and McDonald file for Free Agency.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I got a question:

Over/Under number of wins by an MLB Field Manager in a 162 game season.

I will set the line at 9.5

I take under.......

I should say because of his direct influence in game...

Another dream of Stoeten's died today as Manny exercised his 2010 option.

There's still hope for 2011, Rogers Centre has the best showers in MLB.

I just read a comment on the urbantoronto.ca forum saying that the skydome will be renovated for the pan am games. I'm not sure if it's true or how that will affect the jays - but interesting.

BC Jays Fan said...

Is now a good time to suggest that Toronto build a 80,000 seat stadium for PanAm games and a future NFL franchise, and then the Blue Jays can re-vamp Rogers Centre for a real baseball experience?

No?...... OK...... maybe in 2010.

@ stoeten

I just read your response in the previous string.I shit on you enough when you're wrong so I guess I gotta give you credit when you make sense.Well written and articulate, you could have used better examples in paragraph 4,those are full of holes statistically ( ironic ) but you points are well taken.
So kudos to you.You can have moments of clarity.

No, I'm not going to blow you but admitting you make sense from time to time and that I might have to agree with you makes me a little ill.I'll get over it.LOL

Stoeten said...

You just blew my mind.

Olympic (or PanAm) sized stadiums are not NFL friendly (see LA Raiders). I doubt the NFL would approve such a move. What Toronto needs is a World Cup bid for a new Football stadium.

If it warms the cockles of your heart any, the Yomiuri Giants just ended their own 7-year "drought" and won their 21st title in Japan. No matter where you go in the globe, baseball this year wants to drive home the message that only the rich win.

According to MLBTR the Jays are talking with the D'Backs about Chris Snyder.

The purgatory that is the AL East for everyone not named Boston or New York will be tough to escape. I don't envy AAs job, but am seriously curious/worred (lol) as to what will happen this off-season, one that is hugely pivotal in terms of getting fans back onside. M-yes, thanks professor Brent for that vague insight. haha

WHAT TORONTO NEEDS IS TO FORGET ABOUT THE FREAKSHOW THAT IS THE NFL.

I WILL FIGHT TOOTH AND NAIL AGAINST A FUCKING DIME BEING SPENT ON THAT

Anonymous said...

An NFL team will never succeed here because it won't be able to compete with the Leafs (and to a less degree the Raptors) for our money and attention during the winter months.

This is a hockey town even with the Leafs sucking, imagine how it would be once they start winning.

Famous Amazing Guy said...

fuck the hot stove! i'm gonna emotionally invest in that new hit show Drafted.

MLBTR has a report saying that the Jays & Arizona are discussing a possible Snyder for Overbay swap.

My fav Chris Snyder fact:

A foul ball fractured his left testicle during an MLB game.

tercet said...

So AA is gonna give 1b to ruiz/dopirak?

Brad Fullmer Fan said...

What a shitty deal that would be. Especially if they aren't going to move Lind to 1B. Snyder's contract is also poor.

Ruiz and Dopirak aren't good enough to be major league 1B.

I'm not accustomed to the Jays coming out on the losing side of trades, so this will take some getting used to.

James said...

Are you kidding? The NFL would be huge here. It already is, even without a team.

This is the 5th biggest market in North America. Just because the Leafs are extremely popular doesn't mean there's not room for a lot more. Compared to other makers of similar sizes, Toronto is underserved team wise.

Anonymous said...

And Mexico City is the largest market in North America. Your point is???
