Think I must have stumbled on to the Leafs blog with all these nutty fucks wanting to constantly castrate the GM even though, by and large, he's doing a pretty decent job. Not having JFJ around to blame is really getting to the Leaf loving sect I guess.

But seriously, JP's condescending ways are fucking solid. He is smarter and knows more about baseball than us. Most GM's just read from the book of clichés but dude fucking brings the noise 9 times out of 10 when it comes to sound bites.

Let us also remember that there are 29 other teams in baseball and 13 other teams in the AL and all of their executives (and fans) want them to make the playoffs (some more than others - looking at you KC). The fact that the Jays aren't in the playoff picture isn't a colossal failure as some might think. Try being a Pirates fan, or a Royals fan, or a Rays fan up until now (and, much like the Pens in the NHL, being a complete bag of shit for so long has to turn you around eventually unless your management are a gaggle of retards).

I'll give you that SS has traditionally been a position shallow with offensive talent, but I won't concede LF.

I'd say that the Jays have been in the bottom 1/3 of the league in terms of LF rankings.

Looking for studs in LF is like shooting fish in a barrel.

I do just want to point out that LF and SS are traditionally the red-headed stepchildren of baseball positions. Doesn't invalidate your point, but it is worth saying that lots of, if not most, teams are pretty weak at LF and SS. What kid grows up saying "I wanna be a shortstop" when they could be a second baseman?

He's average at best. Even if the good moves he's made have outweighed the bad, he's ultimately responsible for the product on the field.

Yes the players hit, field and pitch and JP can't control the way they play. But there are glaring holes (and have been) at several positions that haven't been addressed during JPs tenure.

LF, DH, SS - all holes when JP took over the team and despite trying to improve the situation, he hasn't.

Johnson/Stewart, Thomas/Stairs, Eckstien are the best he's been able to provide at each position since 2003 - all below average, DH being the best addressed of the 3.

Sure he might make good moves on the whole (especially with the pitching) but if you can't address your biggest needs over a 5 year period - you deserve to be cut.

I just listened to it again and it sounds like he said it half out of frustration and half to avoid talking in depth about it. It's understandable that he didn't want to discuss possible trades in a public forum like that. He could've handled it much better though.

JP Ricciardi basically said yesterday he expected that Cito would be managing in the big leagues, and probably soon. Mike Wilner didn't entirely write off the idea this week either. It certainly isn't out of the realm of possibilities....he is working in the Jays organization right now beside Godfrey.
